Bull Creek
In 1981, the National Park Service recognized the Bull Creek area at the foot of the Henry Mountains as a national archaeological treasure. But for reasons unknown, the evidence supporting the Bull Creek Archaeological District was lost, and the location of more than a hundred National Register sites is not known today. Since 2023, CPAA, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (Richfield Field Office) and the Utah State Historic Preservation Office, has been teasing out clues hidden in forgotten archives to re-identify and re-document the lost sites.
We have also documented dozens more that were not considered in the National Register nomination. To date, CPAA has recorded nearly 200 sites – pit houses, field camps, lookout stations, and granaries, part of our five-year project to submit an updated nomination that fully recognizes one of the nation’s most important archaeological districts.
